Koontz Seminar February 10
Well-known industry leader John Koontz will return to conduct session number 10 of his 10-part Project Manager and Foreman Training seminar. The last session will focus on partnership and Industry Best Practices. The seminar is free to MCAI members. The fee for non-members is $300 per person. UA Details Arbitration Decision that will Impact Jobs with Ductless Systems
A letter from the United Association (UA) details a recent arbitration between the UA and SMART over the installation of ductless split air conditioning systems and the assignment of work on a job in the city of San Francisco. The letter details a 1956 UA-SMART agreement that assigns the work to the UA. This agreement was the basis for the arbiter’s decision. You will also notice in the final paragraph that the UA “will aggressively employ lawful and appropriate means to protect its jurisdiction and vindicate its rights under the 1956 Agreement”. This notice will have an impact on jobs where ductless systems are installed. Please take a moment to review it.

Starting January 29, 2023, certain construction projects that promote energy efficiency and clean energy production will qualify for substantially larger tax credits if they are performed by contractors that employ apprentices from a registered program and pay prevailing wage. On January 18, 2023 at 1:00 pm Eastern, Jim Gaffney, Chairman of MCAA’s Government Affairs Committee, will host a webinar to educate MCAA members about these incentives and how to use them as marketing tools and provide guidance on how to assure facility owners that your business complies with the requirements of the law. He will be joined by Vince Sarubbi, Director of Government Relations at MCAA, and Lauren Rayner Davis, a Senior Associate at Peckar & Abramson and a compliance expert.

Nominations Are Open for MCAA’s Board of Directors – January 13 Is the Last Day
The future of MCAA is fundamentally linked to the quality of the individuals who serve on its Board of Directors. MCAA members who would like to be considered for one of three vacancies are encouraged to learn more and complete the application. Applications should be returned no later than January 13, 2023. Candidates and their spokespersons will be scheduled for interviews at the 2023 MCAA Annual Convention. Those who are selected will begin their terms in March 2023.
